Rec.Windsurfing

The Windsurfing News Group

FAQ

Is there a newsgroup for windsurfers?
Yes! Rec.windsurfing is an open forum for windsurfers around the world.

Who can use it, and how do I access it?
Anyone with access to the Usenet can use Rec.windsurfing to read or post windsurf related articles. Check with your Internet service provider if you need Usenet access.

What kind of information can I find there?
Any windsurfing related topics. Most posts are questions about travel, equipment, or technique. Also common are upcoming events, club news, places to windsurf, gear for sale.

How up to date and reliable is the information?
Very up to date, in the sense that posts appear quickly. Not very reliable, as there is no editor or moderator to ensure the accuracy of what is posted. It is a good place to get general ideas about a place or product, but specific recommendations should be approached carefully. Keep in mind that there is no way to establish the credibility or even the identity of most posters.

Will these people help me with dumb questions?
It's what we live for.

Can I post?
Yes, it is open to all, but please mind the following rules:

It is best to 'lurk' the group for a while before posting. This will give you a chance to see what is being covered, and pick up the 'netiquette'.

Warning! Expect to see most or all of these rules violated at some point. That doesn't make it ok.
The "brand A rules, brand B is a piece of $#*%", or "so and so is a bonehead" sort of rants are most suspect. Assume the poster is biased, financially motivated, or just a jerk. Open forum doesn't mean slander.

Can I buy and sell my own gear?
Sure. Be sure to give your location. Be honest about the condition of gear for sale. You can e-mail pictures right to prospective buyers, but please don't post them.
